Spider Plant is a very popular, easy-to-grow indoor plant known for its long arching leaves and baby “spiderettes” that hang from the mother plant. It belongs to Chlorophytum comosum.

🌿 What it looks like

  • Long, narrow leaves that arch outward
  • Usually green with white stripes (some varieties are fully green)
  • Produces small baby plants on thin stems that look like spiders hanging → hence the name

🌱 Why it’s so popular

  • Extremely low maintenance
  • Grows well indoors with minimal care
  • Helps improve indoor air freshness (commonly noted for air-purifying ability)
  • Safe for homes with pets compared to many other indoor plants

☀️ Care guide (perfect for Gurgaon homes)

Light

  • Bright indirect light is best
  • Can survive in low light, but grows slower

Water

  • Water when top soil feels dry
  • Avoid overwatering (root rot is the main issue)

Soil

  • Well-draining soil (normal potting mix works fine)

Temperature

  • Ideal: 18–30°C → suits Gurgaon climate well
  • Protect from extreme winter cold at night

Humidity

  • Normal room humidity is fine
  • Occasional misting helps in dry winters

🌿 Growth behavior

  • Produces “baby spider plants” that can be:
    • Left hanging for decorative look
    • Cut and replanted to grow new plants easily
  • Fast-growing in good light and moderate watering

⚠️ Common issues

  • Brown leaf tips → usually due to fluoride in water or underwatering
  • Yellow leaves → overwatering or poor drainage
  • Drooping → too much direct sun or dry soil

🌿 Quick tip

If you want a full, bushy plant, trim old brown tips and occasionally repot it into a slightly larger pot.
